[加拿大新聞] income tax going up in BC? What's your thought?

While living in Seattle, I actually read MingPaoVan instead of US News.  According to what I read, tax is going up for BC residents?  What do you guys thinks?  Does it really matter, or is it really that bad??

OMG.  I live in Vancouver and I don't consume Chinese media.  Local gweilo media, like Vancouver Sun or Province, is bad enough already.  The Chinese media is even worst.

QUOTE
UNQUOTE

MSP = Medical Service Plan, EI = Employment Insurance and CPP = Canadian Pension Plan.  They are all insurance and NOT taxes for sure.  The increases on insurance premium.  The provincial and federal are also acting as insurance company.  The money goes to a different pot and separated from tax revenue.

Before Canadian complaint about medical insurance premium, they should check the rate in the US.

Chea .. tax is going up ALL the time in Canada ga la.. ( western )

Income tax, property tax, whatever tax ..

EL, you are so lucky to live in US!!

Move to US? You pay thousands to scams like social security and medicare and you won't get a single penny back.

At least when you pay taxes in Canada, you are contributing to your own country.

The easiest way to not pay taxes is to quit your job.  So easy.

That is good and make sense to me ..  just like HK ..  or US .. everything is cheaper (not house in HK) and less tax, then you pay your own medi ..

Paying ~ $1k plus on stupid health care here anyway ..  so .. for last 20 yr .. easy .. spent $20K or 30K on health care, do I get $30K worth of medicare back ? no ..  what did I get? stupid LONG LONG LONG wait time when sick .....  so .. with doctor = no doctor, still need to pay for medicine anyway ...

At the end of the day? I pay and see Doctor in Hong Kong ...  but money to health care still flush to toilet and to those homeless people.

You still pay tax when you dine out or buy things. :-(

It's True that medical insurance sucks here in the US, and I have to say MSP is far better.
Yes, you may need to wait on some medical procedure.  However, you wouldn't have to worry about medical insurance if you out of job or retire early.  That's not the same here in the US.  Many people here working till they are at least 65+ only to keep their insurance.
I have to admit that it is easier to save money here in the US than in Canada.  Pay is overall better for a decent job, and housing/rent/cars are less expensive.  If you job offers good medical insurance + the lower tax rate, then you can end up saving.  In our case, it isn't much of a saving, since my parents live in Vancouver, and childcare for 2 kids are so much more expensive compares to my friend who were able to have their parents taking care of the kids until 2 or 3.  For 2 kids at $1000+ per kid, that's $24000/yr.

That is quite ideal life EL!

Parents in Van ..  you can go visit them all the time, and have "GOOD" food .. ( Food in Seattle isn't bad) and living in Seattle, when you go travel, no matter within US, Europe, Asian, lower cost to fly ...

I like Seattle, go there shopping few time a year .. ^_^

Right, it's all about saving in the US.  Otherwise there's no reason to work here.
