Age and jobs

Do you agree that as we are aging, we will have less job opportunities?  Do you think that employers always want to hire young people (e.g. fresh grads) instead of people with more work experiences?

In Asian countries such as HK, yes, quite so.

In North America, depends on which sector and also your experiences, I'd say "not likely".

There shall be certain jobs where experience counts/matters. Fresh grads don't get that kind of opportunities until they have accumulated certain level of expertise/experience  as they work their way up.

Of cos they want to hire young grad. over experienced workers. Young grads command less wage, benefit, holidays etc.  I dont know about USA but getting rid of older employees is happening all over Canada.  Of cos, the employer would do it subtlely such as giving crappy shifts to experienced employee...in the name of they need "experience" when management staff is not around.  You can ask your older friends if you are still in doubt.

Thanks for sharing your opinion everyone.  Thanks for asking Tiffiant.  Yes I'm looking for jobs.

Good luck. If you are not high up on the age group, you should be able to find a decent job and go from there.

Age discrimination is rampant in various Asian countries. HK is one of them.
