HALIFAX -- High winds were causing some Thanksgiving weekend travel headaches across Atlantic Canada Saturday.

Wind gusts of 110 kilometres an hour in some areas have forced Marine Atlantic, Nova Star Cruises, Northumberland Ferries and the Confederation Bridge to limit or cancel their services.

Marine Atlantic cancelled its late Saturday morning ferry crossings between Port aux Basques, N.L., and North Sydney, N.S.

Nova Star Cruises said the ferry that was scheduled to arrive in Yarmouth, N.S., Saturday morning from Portland, Maine wouldn't be able to make land until later in the day.

Nova Star's Saturday afternoon crossing from Yarmouth was therefore cancelled, as well as the overnight ferry from Portland.

Meanwhile, Northumberland Ferries crossings between Caribou, N.S., and Wood Islands, P.E.I., were cancelled until later Saturday.

The Confederation Bridge was not allowing motorcycles, vehicles towing trailers and high-sided vehicles to cross Saturday afternoon.
