VANCOUVER -- A popular Japanese barbecue restaurant went up in smoke on South Granville around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, but there were no injuries.
Heavy smoke could be seen coming from Shabusen Yakiniku House at 14th and Granville. The fire is believed to have started from a buildup of grease in a ventilation duct.
It took firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which by the time they arrived had licked its way up to the roof.
A Vancouver Fire Department spokesman said the restaurant should be able to reopen as soon as it is deemed fit for operation by a food inspector. |
