Backpacking the World

I remember a post in the old forum about backpacking india? Forgot who was the poster.

I plan on backpacking the world, with about 20k-30k budget for a year.

Places I plan to go to: Argentina, India, Nepal, Tibet, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and more

Toronto would probably be my mid-point, I got friends there that can take me in, while I can work to regain some of my expenses.

I have saved up about 10k already, my planning is still in it's early phases, anyone can offer some suggestions?

I don't have any suggestions but I think it is really COOL

btw, how about europe? ........how old r u?

Europe backpacking is way too expensive, as cost of living and transportation is way out of my 30k ranges, I'd probably last less than 4 months with it. Besides, I have been to Europe when I was a kid, it is the poorer countries I want to take a look at. The proverty, and people under oppression, so that I don't feel as spoiled no more. I am 20 btw.

+Bhutan to my list.

I plan on staying in cheap motels or hostels, use wi-fi spots for my laptop, have a 4k budget for my poker bankroll.
PS: I am pretty good at online poker have earned 2k before.

The main objection of this trip is to gain knowledge of the world and learn how to live on my own. I don't believe secondary education would bring me where I want to go. Backpacking the world is the only way.

I think that's cool too.  Not too sure about the budget, but have a feeling that it would be tight unless you're going to work during the trip (beside your Toronto stop).  Simply the air fare around the world isn't going to be cheap.

Another suggestion, learn the language there.  Otherwise, you are bounded to be a tourist and not experiencing the city there.

I really like your plan.  However, I am planning to backpack Europe in next Spring instead.  WEll, I only have 3 weeks of vacation from work, so I don't have much choices.  I am planning to visit England, France and Italy only.  Well, they have most of the arts, music and Arch in the Western Europe.  But yes, it's damn expensive!

Good luck with your backpacking around the world!

if you are going to France and Italy ... at a min. you should add Barcelona to your list.

look for the cheap year round air ticket.  sometimes they have the special package for going to # of countries in certain time.  find out where are the canadian embassies,   find home stay for backpacker, some people allow you to stay in their couches for free.  plan your route, go to the countries that are close together. get all the visas  you can find a job in some countries. if you just want to learn how to live by yourself.  moved to a different city which is good enough

i heard about that before. It's called couch-surfing. If you're lucky, you'll actually meet the people who are hosting you and you'll be able to get first hand experience of the place there.

youth hostels are also popular, but I'm not sure whether they're available in those countries. I haven't ventured to those areas of the world before.
