but 'cuz of we don't have any experience... they just only can pay us for $9 to $11 / hour ... and they need us to go to ladner for interview first....

but we are not interesting for standing all day long to get less than our wage's job.. 'cuz you had mention on another post that we can get $368 per day.. we thought we can get at least $16 per hour.. so..

my girlfriends said that.. beside it's too far to go for interview.. we will get lost over there.... and they are not sure that they will hire us for sure or not..

$9-11 is not much at all. No wonder there are still positions available. If it was $16 or higher, i believe the positions will be filled right away before the news got to the street.

Good morning to all
It is true that $9 to $11 per hour is not a decent pay job. However, the
pay scale is across Canada so when you compare with the Maritime provinces,
it is a fair deal. If you worked at the federal election before, the Deputy Returning
Officer is $14 an hour and similar  pay for the interpreter. In fact, I received many
calls inquiring how they can volunteer at the Election Day.
Please do not forget all the political parties hire thousands of volunteers, they
work much, much harder and get nothing more than a hand-shake and a thank you card.
Again, I said many time it is not a real paid job, just a way to serve our country
and regard the pay cheque as honourary(That is what I remind  myself whenever  I conduct
Pro D day events for teachers or  lectures for the churches and other community
groups) hey, the Fairchild TV, Channel M, AM1320 and 1470 never pay me a penny, and they
are big business.
Just to clarify that it is NOT a Standing- All- Day job, actually the causal workers would
set up comfy chairs padded with cushions, bring their thermo cooler and kind of picnicking
there. Sure it is a long day, but in some locations, they handling less than 80 ballots
per station that is 5 voter per hour for 2 poll workers. The rest of time you can
walk around, reading or listening to MP2. It is not a high pay job but at least it is
a very easy job.
Our office is not far from Richmond, just go along #99 South bound and exit at #28 after you
crossed the Massey tunnel, I would say 12 minutes from Westminster Highway.
Yes we are still hiring for Election Day team, but the 3 Days advance poll is pretty well
filled. Thanks everyone I have had 56 Chinese applicants.  Please don't forget to vote, it
is our obligation as Canadian. Salute

Too bad I have a full time job. So can't volunteer or take the job.
It's hard here. I don't think many young people vote. Politic seems a bit dry to them may be?

btw Ladner is very close to richmond. I used to give my friend who lived there rides often. and.... no one know sure if they will be hired before and interview... interview is to select... otherwise, what is the point of it if everyone goes will get hired...

Actually the requirement is quite minimal: you have to be resident of the Electoral
District, 18 years of age, and good understanding of English, i.e. Grade 9 and above.
You can compare to  job at MD, Tim Horton or Starbucks; it is a relaxing job that the
supervisors would not keep you working every minute. And, the law allows you to have
someone arrested by the RCMP with solid ground, say, contempt.
We are not taking about politics here, just to exercise the right and obligation to vote that our respectful late Chinese Canadian fought so hard for. Let our voice be heard, do not waste your vote. Salute
PS: You can always work for the election office in your Electoral District, not necessary
     coming all the way to Delta

I would believe many people do not mind to work as volunteers at all if their shedules allow them do so. The problem is that you gave misleading information and telling people that it is a decent pay job in other post.

I apologize if there is any misleading information given, from the very beginning I stated that this is
NOT a decent paid job, rather we can regard the paycheque as HONOURARY. The pay range is $9.75 for
info officer,  $10.50 for Poll Clerk, the Deputy returning Officer and Interpreter get around $14 per hour.
It is quite straight forward and posted on the Election Canada website that applied to All electoral Districts across Canada. It is an easy job even for a long day; and good first hand experience of democracy Canadian style. By all mean please go and help out at your local electoral district office.

we thought it's pay more than our job.. so that's why we were planning to ask for day off to work for them..'cuz we need extra money.. but..
